Not much has happened since the New Year hit. I've had a few commission work which I assume would pick up come spring time as companies start allocating their funds. There have been some deals in the work but nothing monumental that is greenlit yet. I've been slowly but surely developing my website and learning HTML & CSS. I learned enough through Codacademy.com to create the splash page on my site: [link]
A friend hooked me up with a deal at Treehouse and I subscribed to them for a year at a ridiculously low price. I'll be continuing my knowledge of web development there and perhaps delve into some UX as things progress. My skillset seems to be ever growing with no one particular area benefiting me more than the next. I still do not understand why no company has taken a shot on me and hired me full time and, like always, I am trying to stay vigilant.
I entered a few art contests in January and February with some winners already announced and others still being judged. So far, I have yet to win any nor receive an honorable mention -- I do have tremendously bad luck when it comes to art competitions. Here's my entry for the Capcom's Darkstalkers Ressurection "Embrace that Dark" character creation contest: [link] and here's my most recent entry in the Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn's "Chocobo's Rule the World" contest: [link] I've also entered Udon Studio's World of Warcraft Tribute contest, though I am not at the liberty to display it just yet.
Currently I'm working on my entry for the Jinx's League of Legends "Champion's Day Off" T-Shirt contest. That, along with a handful of commissions, and my site development has kept me from going nuts over my unemployment. The stress of finding a job and knowing that your bank account can't sustain for too long is worrisome.
I'm not too sure how many of you actually read these, but hey, if anyone knows any semi-established companies looking for a designer/motion-graphics artist/illustrator in New York, drop me a note. Chances are I've applied to them already, but who knows, maybe I've overlooked them. Stay classy readers.
